New Employee Training Program

External Affairs advances UCLA’s world-class teaching, research, and patient care through its services in marketing, communications, advocacy and advancement. EA’s New Employee Training Program provides opportunities to learn about UCLA’s rich history, tradition and its path to the future. New staff learn to be effective advocates for the university’s needs and to serve External Affairs’ many constituents.

The New Employee Training Program facilitates a new employee’s transition during the first six months of employment. Program managers meet with the new employee on their first day to provide introductions to our tools, resources, key contacts. Each new employee receives an individualized training program tailored to his/her position.

For new development officers, early trainings focus on essential tools and standards necessary to begin working with donor and prospect information. Development officers are then introduced to key contacts and processes. In-depth training on UCLA's fundraising programs is provided in the second through fifth months.

Program Manager Joe Sanchez works closely with supervisors to ensure that training needs are met for each new employee.
